I hope that everyone has had a good, or at least restful, holiday! It's finally 2017! Unfortunately I didn't have any real hobby plans from last year to look back and ruminate on, though I suppose getting Banthus and Ikaru new make up was one of my few goals (mission complete!).

Annual group photo
It has been a good year for me as far as the ball-jointed doll hobby is concerned. I managed to acquire some outfits that I had thought I'd never lay hands on -looking at you, Cadenza Night Waltz II - and dealer items I never dreamed I'd have en masse. And not only that but three, three, new additions. Even if I never bought another item in 2017 (ha!) I'd be happy. I've also met some wonderful people this year, and hope that in 2017 I can bridge the gap between me and those I only rarely get to speak to.

Happy New Year, and here's to a wonderful 2017!

It's been looking more and more like Volks Pearl is going to end up as a sibling to Ikaru rather than my F-57 boy (who, by the way, I really want to name Saito. I promised myself Ikaru would be the only one with a Japanese name though). I think it's the noses. They both have that round bulb with wide sculpted nostrils. Honestly though, is there anything in my collection that hasn't somehow been claimed in one way or another by Ikaru? ε-(-`д´- 。)

It's been a long time since I've photographed Banthus, let alone with Ikaru. I want to call them my beauty and the beast couple, but Banthus is too dapper and put-together looking to really fill the 'beast' position. I'm hoping to finally finish a few projects for him in the coming year, including a tail!

I'd really like to get better at couple photographs as well. Some hobbiests can do it so well, and it's very inspiring!

We've nearly reached the end of 2016, and while I normally do not do yearly wishlists or goals, I was inspired to sit down and put one together this year.

Pearl and F-57 will likely be the focus of 2017. I'd love to nail down wigs for both of them and hopefully avoid purchasing anything that is likely to not work out. For F-57, Volks new Fluffy Wolf style in Smokeybeige or Corkbrown looks promising, while there are a few Himekazura wigs I want to try on Pearl. I also need to purchase a couple more doll stands. Which reminds me that I need to keep my eyes peeled for a suitable table or display. My desk is starting to feel a bit cramped nowadays.

I also wouldn't say no to finally finding the Volks Kurotsurubami kimono for a half decent price.

Other than that, there's keeping up with dealer products and saving for LA Dolpa 2017. As much as I'd love to finally be able to get my Pluto Dolls boy together, it's not looking likely. A project for 2018, I think.

Here's to the end of another year! I hope everyone's holidays are great, and I'll see you in 2017!

Wow, it's been so long since my last post that I've somehow managed to have two arrival posts one right after the other. I have to admit that lately I've become increasingly enamored with the instant gratification of instagram. Snap a pick, write a few words - or dont write anything at all! - and get immediate feedback in the form of silent likes. It certainly has it's perks. But here we are again! There's just something so nostalgic about writing and reading blogs.

Despite VolksUSA regularly taking FCS orders, we haven't seen Pearl return to the line up since the very first FCS back in 2014. A fact that I've been very vocal about, since every other gem has appeared consistently throughout those two years. It was like Volks saw her popularity and purposely withheld her from future FCS's. So when we finally saw her return this October I didn't hesitate to place an order.

The box! This is when I really started feeling excited!

A Christmas card signed by the Volks employees. I really love when companies do things like this. It reminds me how small and precious this hobby really is.

Birth Certificate included with the guide book. They spelt my last name wrong here, but it's a bit of a doozy so I don't blame them.

And there she is! I chose the vivid make up over the natural, since my other dolls all have fairly bold colored make up. My original intention was to make her and my F-57 siblings, but I'll have to see if that concept manages to stick after a few days. I'm hoping that tomorrow will bring fair weather, for more photography opportunities!

Today's arrival is an exciting one! I've been looking at this doll for several months, and even bid on one several times on Yahoo!Japan, but the auctions tended to go for much more than I had budgeted at the time.

After a few auction failures I decided to place a proxy order at Sato for him - Nakita definitely kicked my butt in gear with her F-62 - in late September. I had all the funds set aside and was just waiting for the proxy to get back into contact with me.

Unfortunately after several weeks of waiting my proxy lost contact, but a few days later a one-off version appeared at auction. I was so sure that I'd fail to win it, the same as ever other F-57, but surprisingly not only did I win but at a much, much lower price than an FCS order would have run me!

So without any further rambling, here's the newest boy to join my doll family, F-57!

I had plans to wipe him and get a similar face up as Ikaru's, but after playing with him a bit I'm satisfied with it. The only real issue, I think, is the lack of bottom lashes. Which does look a bit odd next to Ikaru's rather dramatic ones.

What I find most interesting about it is that the artist clearly attempted to give him some facial hair on his chin, but either decided against it or didn't want to make it too dramatic for people who don't like that look. It's nearly impossible to see in the photos here though.

Have I mentioned yet that I love how he looks with Ikaru? (´,,•ω•,,)♡ Geez, I fall in love with these boys all over again every time I look at them. I really feel like I've finally hit on the aesthetic that I've been trying to reach since buying Ikaru in 2012.

I've been thinking about keeping the same naming theme that Ikaru has. That is, being named after Japanese birds (Ikaru is named for the Japanese Grosbeak), but I'm also a bit hesitant to give my dolls too many Japanese names.

Witching - Banthus - Ikaru - F57
The arrival of F-57 has gotten me rethinking about my current collection. I was due to ship out my Williams head for a new faceup this week, but now I'm seriously considering if he really has a place within my doll family. Doubly so with that addition of Pearl in Volks USA's upcoming FCS. Witching unfortunately has been another one that I've been sizing up.
